Source Material: The Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) is a consortium that includes Ohio’s 50 colleges and universities providing teacher education programs, the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Board of Regents. This group is conducting research that follows the preparation of new teachers into their classroom performance (eventually to the performance of their students). One part of that study is a survey to obtain information from Ohio’s pre-service teachers who will begin their professional careers in the next academic year. The survey, designed by TQP, obtains information about candidates’ beliefs about teaching, their perceptions related to the quality of various aspects of their teacher preparation programs, and their concerns about teaching. The report of survey results is divided, as is the survey, into the following topic sections:

  • Program
  • Curriculum
  • Courses
  • Standards
  • Orientation, literacy
  • Orientation, mathematics
  • General Efficacy
  • Teacher Efficacy

Within each section are one or more specific subscales within which related questions are grouped. The surveys are provided to graduating student teachers each semester by their college student teaching supervisors who submit completed forms to the Office of Research and Field Experience at Bowling Green State University. All of the surveys for the institution are then sent to TQP for aggregation and analysis. TQP sends a summarized version of the results of each institution along with aggregated state results to that institution. This is the data from which the TQP Survey Report at BGSU is generated.

EDHD Report Content: The TQP Survey Report includes:

  • TQP Survey Summary highlighting results for each section (listed above) with detail for each subscale within each section. Each subscale shows the mean rating (based on a Likert scale) of all BGSU student teachers responses for the collective questions related to that subscale. The rating of all student teachers in the state for the questions that related to that subscale is also provided and the differences between the BGSU means and the State means are calculated.
  • Greatest Concerns One section of the survey provides respondents with an opportunity to indicate concerns they have about their capability for different aspect of teaching. The survey report lists teaching concerns that were most frequently chosen by BGSU student teachers. Based on the number of responses, the concerns are ranked 1 (greatest concern = most frequently selected) through 5. For each of the top 5 concerns chosen by BGSU student teachers, the report shows how that concern was ranked by all other graduating student teachers in the state.
  • Section Graphs showing a graphical depiction of the TQP Survey Summary sheet. Bar graphs for each subscale within each section compare the BGSU mean rating to the State mean rating.
  • Programs Within Subscale Sheets shows for each subscale the scaling (e.g. 1-5) and the total college mean score. It also lists the programs that had respondents who answered questions from that particular subscale. Those programs are listed in rank order from highest mean score for that subscale to lowest.
  • Individual Program Summary Sheet (overall rank)   for each subscale, ranking BGSU programs/licensure areas according to respondents ratings of various items from high (most positive) to low (least positive). Since different sections of the survey utilize different Likert scales, a percent column was created to accurately compare across the subscales in different sections. The percent value simply represents a relation of the mean rating of BGSU teacher graduates to the maximum rating possible on that particular Likert scale. The higher the percent, the more favorable the rating.
  • Individual Program Summary Sheet (rank within section) for each subscale, ranking BGSU programs/licensure areas according to respondents ratings of various items from high (most positive) to low (least positive). The format for this sheet is the same as the Program Summary Sheet (overall rank) except for the subscales are ranked high to low within their related section, not high to low overall.
  • Question Specific Program Sheets showing the rating of each individual question that relates to a subscale. This is only done for those subscales that have less than a 70% rating on the Program Summary Sheet.

Changes From Previous Year: Inclusion of Programs Within Subscale Sheets described above.
