Source Material: Students are assessed to determine their mastery of specific topics related to national, state and institutional standards for professional educators. Each graduate program selects a course in which their graduate students must participate and these courses are utilized to conduct the assessments. The assessments could consist of an examination, a research paper, a report, a presentation, etc. The instructor then scores the assessment according to a formal rubric and at the end of the semester enters student key assessment scores into the Blackboard course shell for database archiving. The Assessment Officer conducts an analysis of the key assessment scores utilizing the category ranges predetermined by faculty for individual key assessments. Student performance is categorized into one of three categories (Target, Acceptable, or Unacceptable). The key assessments included in the report are as follows:

  • KA20a   Professional Literature
  • KA21a   Effective Practice
  • KA22a   Planning
  • KA23a   Effect on Student Learning

EDHD Report Content: The Graduate Key Assessment Report includes:

  1. Unit Executive Summary Sheet which highlights the key assessments that had the highest percentage of students at the highest rating (Target). It also shows those key assessments that had the highest percentage of students attaining at least an Acceptable rating (Target and Acceptable combined) and the key assessments that had the highest percentage of students scoring at the lowest rating (Unacceptable).
  2. Program Executive Summary Sheet which lists, in order from most to least, the programs that had the highest total percentage of students attaining the highest rating level (Target). It also lists, in order, the programs that had the highest percentage of students attaining at least an Acceptable rating (Target and Acceptable combined) and the programs that had the highest percentage of students scoring at the lowest rating (Unacceptable).
  3. Unit Results Percentage Sheet which lists the percentage of students falling within each rating category for each key assessment. The data analysis is combined across students from all of the teacher and professional education programs at BGSU.
  4. Unit Results Frequency Sheet which displays the same format as the Unit Results Percentage Sheet but lists actual number of students (frequency count) scoring within each category rather than the percentage of students.
  5. Individual Program Results Percentage Sheets which display the same information as the Unit Results Percentage Sheet but are program specific. The percentages pertain only to students from a particular program named on the sheet. For comparison purposes, the Unit Results category percentages are listed again below the Individual Program category percentages.
  6. Individual Program Results Frequency Sheets which display the same information as the Unit Results Frequency Sheet but are program specific. The frequency numbers pertain only to students from a particular program named on the sheet.
