Reading Tutoring

SUMMER TUTORING: May 13 - August 1

What is the Literacy Opportunity Program?

The literacy OPPORTUNITY program is a one-on-one tutoring program that targets a child’s strengths and limitations in reading

Instruction for the program is based on the Literacy Cornerstones that include:
     Oral Language
     Fluency
     Vocabulary Development
     Comprehension Development
     Written Language
     Attitude and Motivation

A reading pre-assessment is administered on the first day of tutoring.  The results of the assessment are used to guide instruction.

Lesson plans are developed that encompass all of the literacy cornerstones, for a well-rounded learning experience.

Choose a one hour time slot from the following open times: 

May

Monday through Thursday: 4pm and 5pm.  Also Monday at 6pm.

June and July-

Monday through Thursday:  1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm

Due to BGSU holidays and special events, your choice of tutoring days will determine the weeks your child attends.

Tutoring takes place on the campus of BGSU at the Martha Gesling Weber Reading Center in room 576 (5th floor) of the Education Building.

Tutoring takes place on a first come-first served basis.  We will do our best to accommodate your choices.  Please include: 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices on your application.

Due to the tight time frame, we will not be able to accommodate make-up sessions.  

Payment is due on or before the first day of tutoring.  The Reading Center can take cash or check payments in the office.  A payment plan is available in three equal installments.
