A variety of Scholastic Books for young children, adolescents and adults are available at the BG Book Gala. The Book Gala is available to faculty, staff and students and benefits the programs of the Jerome Library Curriculum Resource Center and the Martha Gesling Weber Reading Center. The Book Gala is held in the Education Building and the Jerome Library.
Exploring Literacy with the Expert, Timothy Rasinski

About the Event
In an effort to promote continuing professional development for educators around the community and preservice teachers in the College of Education and Human Development, the Martha Gesling Weber Reading Center is pleased to welcome Timothy Rasinski, Ph.D., to speak at the annual Exploring Literacy with the Expert. Timothy Rasinski is a professor of literacy education at Kent State University. He has written several books and articles pertaining to reading fluency and word study. He was also the co-author of the fluency program, Fluency First.
Dr. Rasinski will give two presentations for local teachers and preservice educators. On Thursday night September 20, 2007, at 4:00pm, Timothy Rasinski will be speaking at the Wood County ESC located at 1867 N. Research Dr. Bowling Green, OH. This presentation is for local teachers and anyone not in a methods block from the university interested in attending. The seating is limited for this event; therefore, pre-registration is needed prior to September 13, 2007. Refreshments will begin at 4:00pm with his presentation, question and answer session, and book signing to follow. The University Bookstore will have books available for purchase.
The event on Friday, September 21, 2007, held in Olscamp room 101, will be for BGSU preservice teachers in the programs of Middle Childhood, Early Childhood, and Intervention Specialist. Refreshments will begin at 9:00am with his presentation, question and answer session, and book signing to follow. The University Bookstore will have books available for purchase.
About the Author
In the past, Dr. Rasinski has been a member of Board of Directors with the International Reading Association and co-editor of several acclaimed journals like The Reading Teacher and The Journal of Literacy Research, which he is currently co-editing. He was also the recipient of the A.B. Herr award for his contributions to literacy education.
