Strategy: Journal Entry
Objective or Purpose:
To assess the students understanding of fraction terminology
and understanding of the concept.
Materials required:
The student will write their response to the question in their
journals.
Description of the activity:
After discussing proper fractions, improper fractions,
and mixed numbers, have the students answer the
following question:
Choose an example of each type of fraction discussed. Draw a picture of
each fraction and label it as proper, improper or mixed.
Management Tips:
Students need guidance as to what is expected with the journal.
Students should be aware that their ideas need to be expressed
in as much detail as possible.
