Topic: Critical thinking using Attribute Blocks

Grade Level: K-3

Strategy: Observation and interview

Objectives Assessed:
Critical thinking, find the properties that are alike and different

Materials Required:
Attribute Blocks with properties of color, shape, thickness and size

Description of Activity:
Working with a small group of students, ask one to select a block from the table in front of them. Ask the student to describe the block. Instruct the next student to select a block that is different in only one way. Ask the student to explain the one way it is different form the block before. When the group agrees that there is only one difference, place the second block next to the first one. The next student takes a turn and so on.

Game: Each student is given the same number of blocks and the directions above are followed. If the student has no block that qualifies when it is his turn the play passes to the next person. The student who uses all his blocks first is the winner.
