Objective:
Student will be able to find the elapsed time.
Materials Required:
Individual clocks with movable hands
Paper and pencil
Description of the Activity:
Ask the child to write down the time he leaves for school in the morning
and the time he arrives home in the afternoon. Then ask him to explain
how he would find the elapsed time.
As the child works, you should watch for the following:
- The time is written appropriately
- The child explains that elapsed time is found by using a clock and/ or
by counting on
- Can identify the elapsed time correctly
You will need to ask the child to do his thinking aloud. The questions you
ask as he works will vary from child to child depending on what he says
as he works. You may also need to encourage him to show it with paper
and pencil as well as on the clock.
Scoring Rubric:
The teacher will determine whether the child has mastered the objective
as determined by the degree to which he is able to answer the
teacher's questions and to explain the process.
