The Classroom Technology faculty from BGSU’s School of Teaching and Learning would like to dedicate time during the Centennial Celebration to offer 1-2 hour workshops/consultations on various Tech Topics. Below are some suggestions, but we welcome ideas from teachers, schools, and community organizations. If you would like to schedule a FREE workshop or consultation in your school or community organization, please email Savilla Banister (sbanist@bgsu.edu or 419-372-7297) with the topic and timeframe you would like. We are excited to be of service to you!

Open Source Alternatives
Did you know that you and your students could use all types of software applications that are FREE? Welcome to Open Source. We’ll explore a few of the apps and discover what benefits they have for the classroom.
Inspiration
This workshop will explore concept-mapping to support learning in the classroom. We will specifically be using Inspiration, but touching on other alternatives, as well.
United Streaming
United Streaming is a streaming video database accessible to many school districts, to match media to content areas. Lesson planning using these resources will be addressed and other free, web-based media sources will also be explored.
Web 2.0
Blogs, wikis and podcasts…oh my! Let’s dive into the Web 2.0 phenomenon and see how easily teachers and students can create and publish multimedia content on the web. Cool stuff!
Using Your Electronic Gradebook System
This workshop will delve into Making the Grade, GradeQuick or whatever e-gradebook system your district employs. Inserting images to create seating charts and keeping daily attendance records for network sharing will be a few of the topics covered. Alternatives to these proprietary systems will be presented.
Spreadsheet Mania
Using spreadsheets to manage data, process calculations, and create charts and graphs are highlights of this workshop. Spreadsheets are not just for math and science, and teachers will learn multiple ways of using these powerful tools to enhance student learning of curricular content.
GIMP-Enhancing Your Curricula with Digital Imaging
The use of digital images in the classroom can support student learning in multiple ways. This workshop will introduce the open source application GIMP and provide opportunities for teachers to create graphics for the web and publication. Features of digital still cameras will also be included in the module.
GarageBand: Podcasting and Audio Impact for Better Learning
Audio files and podcasts are being used in all areas of education to provide learning objects that meet students’ learning styles and areas of interest. This workshop will introduce teachers to GarageBand, a sound creation and editing tool. Ideas will be shared on how to effectively integrate audio content for effective teaching and learning. Other Open Source alternatives for audio editing will be introduced.
