Students may elect to complete the program without earning the Ohio computer/technology endorsement. In that case, the student, in consultation with the program coordinator, may substitute other relevant courses for up to 12 semester hours, for the following elective courses.

  • EDTL 630 - Media Literacy Across the Curriculum (3)
  • EDTL 634 - Hypermedia for Educators II (3)
  • EDTL 635 - Technology, Problem Solving, and the Curriculum (3)
  • EDTL 636 - Networks for Learning (3)

Students who elect to earn the Ohio computer/technology endorsement by completing the program may substitute another relevant course for only one elective course, EDTL 630 - Media Literacy Across the Curriculum (3). For additional information on this topic, please read about electives and substitutions in the Frequently Asked Questions.

Both choices described above are a version of the School of Teaching and Learning (STL) M.Ed. Plan A Option 1. In this instance, students complete EDTL 638 - Seminar on Classroom Technology and Learning, which includes a significant paper based on a project completed during the course. Students may opt, instead, for the STL Plan C option and complete a Master's Thesis as specified in the Graduate Handbook. In that case, students will not take EDTL 638 - Seminar on Classroom Technology and Learning, and will complete a minimum of 33 semester hours, which will include EDTL 699 - Thesis Research, for a maximum of 12 hours.

Important Note: This program requires a good deal of hands-on work with technology. We are able to make available to students, during classes and anytime in on-campus facilities, the specific, necessary hardware and software resources to successfully complete course assignments, etc. Students will need access to the Internet outside of class, preferrably high-speed Internet. As with any such program, expect to spend considerable time working with the required, specified hardware and software. Please be aware that when you make a commitment to complete the program you are making a commitment to use the appropriate resources to complete required assignments, etc.
