Civic Attitudes in Practice One of the most important results from the program development visit was the focus on the International Civic Education Conference and the Policymaker Meeting. The idea was proposed to combine the two activities, making the Policymaker Meeting an integral part of the International Conference and expanding upon the original idea as proposed in the original CEPI implementation plan. Entitled “Civic Attitudes in Practice”, this semi-residential conference was held in Marrakech on January 28, 2007 – February 1, 2008.
| Objectives The purpose of this conference was to bring together international experts in civic education to share their experience with approximately 100 Moroccan policymakers, university faculty, teacher educators and teachers as well as kick-off the CEPI program’s module development and teacher education activities. At the end of the conference, special sessions were held for representatives from Morocco to coordinate and assess initial progress. The evaluation consultants held sessions with their teams and the other program directors conducted meetings to ready the Module Development and Teacher Education participants for their upcoming activities in the United States. Upon completion of the conference an educational “white paper” on civic education in Morocco was produced to assist and guide the conduct and development of the other components of the CEPI program.
