Funded
through a grant from the US Department of Stat,e this collaborative project
specifically worked with young teachers in South Africa and the US
to develop Social/Community Action projects, designed to fit
within their existing curriculum. In addition the educators participated
in workshops, school visits and cultural activities in both countries (2001-2003),
as well as a conference and workshop in KwaZulu Natal, |

South Africa (July 2002). Concluding
activities for this project included a visit to Bowling Green State University,
Columbus, Ohio and Kentucky (May 2003). During the 2003 exchange, South African
teachers
participated in various meetings with faculty and staff
at BGSU, visited Toledo area schools, and participated in a workshop with
Columbus educators on Integrating Social/Community Action in Social Studies
Classrooms.
They also participated in workshops and school visits in Kentucky.
