Tourism, Leisure, and Event Planning Program
The mission of the Tourism & Event Planning Program at Bowling Green State University is to prepare students for skilled, innovative and productive careers in the Travel, Tourism and Event Planning Field. As the premier program in Ohio with an extensive international curriculum and research agenda, our nationally accredited program provides a student-centered educational experience that prepares them for successful careers in the Travel, Tourism and Event planning industry.
As one of the largest industries in the world, tourism provides diverse employment possibilities consisting of private (for-profit) organizations, public entities and nonprofit organizations. In addition, Event Planning is one of the fastest growing professions with a range of full time opportunities. The U.S. News & World Report recently ranked Event Planning in their Top 50 careers across all professions.
Our students have been successful at finding employment with destination management and marketing organizations such as Convention and Visitors Bureaus, Corporate Event Planning Agencies, Special Event and Festival organizations, Wedding Planning Operations, Performance Venues, and meeting-planning organizations at the association, corporate and independent levels.
Our students have additionally found regular employment with resorts, cruise lines, tour wholesalers, incentive travel firms, the attraction industry (theme, amusement, location-based), cultural attractions (museums, arts and historic areas), transportation organizations (airlines, railroads, highway visitor services), corporate travel management operations, tourism research firms, regional tourism organizations, Chambers of Commerce, business improvement districts, economic development organizations, and convention and conference facilities.
The wide variety of settings and constantly diversifying industry gives students multiple options from which to choose.
International opportunities are available via our exchange agreement with Southern Cross University in Australia, the BGSU Study Abroad Program, and regular field trip excursions to Europe, Africa, and Canada.
