Mission Statement
The mission of the Division is to provide quality education and service to the University, the community, the profession, and to conduct research in the leisure studies area. In terms of a liberal education, this means placing focus on the study of leisure behavior and philosophy and assisting students to develop a quality-of-life mentality. Enhanced living skills, wellness attitudes, and cultural richness are infused into the leisure curriculum. In terms of practical education, this means placing focus on career preparation, professional skill development, and job placement. In addition, emphasis is placed on professional vitality (i.e., recruitment, selection, maintenance of individuals within the profession through various professional associations). Finally, research, both basic and applied, is an integral function of the Division which enhances both service and education.
