Excellence in Dance Artistry Award
Recognition given by the BGSU Dance Program to a dance
major who has shown a high level of inventiveness
and
aptitude in the development of her/his artistry in
dance performance, choreography, and/or teaching as
demonstrated
in class participation, dance program performances,
class assignments, choreographed works and rehearsals
with students, faculty, and guest artists. One
$500-$1,000 award will be presented to the student
who,
in addition to her/his demonstrated artistic development:
- Shows dedication to becoming a future professional
in the creative, performance, and/or teaching realms
of dance.
- Acts as a role model for fellow students.
- Is a responsible representative of the BGSU dance
program and greater university community.
Excellence in Dance Scholarship Award
Recognition given by the BGSU Dance Program to a dance
major who has shown developing proficiency in examining,
synthesizing, articulating, and hypothesizing about
dance as demonstrated by a high level of thoroughness
and fluency in written work, projects, and participation
associated with BGSU dance courses and independent studies.
One $500-$1,000 award will be presented to the student
who is actively engaged with theories and methodology
in dance history, criticism, pedagogy, management, ethnology,
movement therapies, or other dance and dance related
studies.
Dance Service and Leadership Award
Recognition given by the BGSU Dance Program to a dance
major or minor who has shown a high level of dedication
to dance advocacy, within the program or beyond.
One $100-$500 award will be presented to the student
who demonstrates dedicated investment in program activities,
and integrity in independent thinking and drive in the
realm of dance service and leadership.
Outstanding Dance Major Award
Honor awarded to a graduating dance major who has successfully
completed major requirements and has demonstrated outstanding
achievement in the creative, academic, performance,
and leadership elements in the study of dance at BGSU.
Award: certificate and gift.
Outstanding Dance Minor Award
Honor awarded to a graduating dance minor who has successfully
complete dance minor requirements and has demonstrated
outstanding achievement in the creative, academic, performance,
and leadership elements in the study of dance at BGSU.
Award: certificate and gift.
Campbell-Davies-Kerch Scholarship:
Awarded to a high school senior who has been accepted
to BGSU. The recipient must be pursuing a career in
elementary school physical education. This is a cash
award of $500.00.
To be eligible the applicant must have a high school
GPA above 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. The application includes
an application form, a 400-word essay, and three letters
of recommendation. It is a possibility to renew this
scholarship for the sophomore year.
Luann Alleman Scholarship:
Awarded to students at both the undergraduate and graduate
level, who have been students at BGSU for two semesters
(at least one of which was at full-time status). It
is awarded to a student that has been accepted into
the elementary physical education program. The award
is a minimum of $400.00.
To be eligible for this award the applicant must be
a member of state and national professional organizations.
There must also be a demonstration of participation
in other means of promoting professional growth.
Gottshall-Rex Scholarship:
Awarded to a rising sophomore, junior, or senior woman
in physical education. It is a scholarship varying from
$300.00 to $1,000.00.
The applicant must have been a student at BGSU for at
least the past two semesters (at least one at full-time
status) and have a minimum GPA standard of 2.70. She
must have been involved in activities related to professional
service and professional growth and show a potential
for leadership in the field of physical education. The
reward is renewable for a second year.
Warren and Marion Steller Scholarship:
Awarded to a rising senior physical education major,
specializing in secondary physical education. The award
is a minimum of $100.00.
The applicant must have been enrolled at BGSU for at
least two semesters (at least one at full-time status)
and have a GPA of at least 3.00. The applicant must
be involved in activities related to professional service
and growth.
Amy Torgerson Award:
Awarded to a senior who has completed student
teaching or is enrolled in student teaching in elementary
physical
education. To be eligible for the award the student
must be nominated by a faculty member. The award is
the recepient's name on a plague.
After being nominated, the student is invited to apply.
To be eligible the applicant must have been enrolled
at BGSU for the past two semesters (at least one at
full-time status) and have a minimum GPA of 2.7. The
student must be involved in activities related to professional
service and growth. Also, the student must show outstanding
knowledge, appreciation, and work in the area of elementary
school physical education.
Gertrude M. Eppler Award:
Awarded to a female senior who has completed
student teaching or is enrolled in student teaching
in secondary
physical education. The recepient's name
is added to a plaque. To be eligible, a student
must be nominated by a faculty
member.
Once nominated the student may apply for the award.
To be eligible for the award, the applicant must have
been enrolled at BGSU for the past two semesters (at
least one at full-time status). She must demonstrate
major interest and professional direction in the area
of secondary school physical education, knowledge and
appreciation of the potential in young adults, appreciation
of the unique contribution of physical education to
the total development of the individual, knowledge and
professional application of techniques which provide
a creative learning situation, empathy for fellow human
beings, and excellence in teaching.
