Students
in the HDFS major enroll in an internship experience that enables them
to apply the knowledge and skills gained in the major and to acquire valuable,
closely supervised experience in the field. Designed as a capstone experience,
the internship is unique compared to those at other institutions in terms
of the length of time students spend at their sites and the close supervision
they receive from a faculty supervisor. In addition to providing students
with a substantive opportunity to interact with children, families, and
community professionals, the internship simultaneously offers a valuable
resource to numerous agencies in the local community.
As a capstone experience, you must meet the following prerequisites prior
to enrolling in the internship:
Prerequisites:
- Junior or Senior level standing
- Minimum of 24 semester hours in HDFS content area
- Completion of HDFS 105 and 106
- HDFS internship coordinator approval
