Internship Program in Nutrition and Dietetics

Prospective Interns

students giving an outside presentationThe Internship Program in Nutrition and Dietetics at Bowling Green State University has been in existence since 1992. We currently offer three options to interested students. We can accept 6 students into the on-site program (Option 1 or Option 2) and 18 students into the Distance Internship Program.

The number of students in option 1 or option 2 varies each year, depending on the applicant pool.

Option 1
Combined Internship Program in Nutrition and Dietetics + Master’s Degree (on-campus or on-line)
This option takes approximately 2 years to complete. The required 1200 supervised practice hours and at least 24 graduate credits are completed the first year. Successful completion of the program requires a master’s thesis or master's project and a minimum of 37-39 graduate credits.

•  Option 2
Internship Program in Nutrition and Dietetics + Graduate Certificate
This option takes one calendar year to complete. Students must accumulate 1200 supervised practice hours and 15 graduate credits to successfully complete the program. This begins fall semester (late August) and ends in late July.

  Option 3
Distance Internship Program in Nutrition and Dietetics + Graduate Certificate
This option is basically the same as option 2, but is completed at the location of the applicant’s choice.   You must choose sites beyond a 50 mile radius from Bowling Green.  Graduate courses are completed on-line. It is intended to be completed in one year.  Interns are required to attend a one week, on-campus orientation in August.  Applicants with an existing Master’s Degree will be evaluated on an individual basis to determine course requirements.

Please note:  we are not prepared to accept applications from the following states at this time:  Arkansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Tennessee  This is due to federal regulations (USDOE) that require state authorization of distance education.  These states either require large fees or have an extensive application process and BGSU has not met these requirements at this time.
