The programs of Educational Administration & Leadership Studies is a graduate program within the School of Leadership and Policy Studies in the College of Education and Human Development at Bowling Green State University. The programs offer three graduate degree programs (M.Ed., Ed.S., Ed.D.) as well as administrative licensure. We are a people-centered unit concerned with professional and personal growth. We seek to provide programs for the development of excellence in leadership for educational functions in social institutions.
The mission of our programs is to
advance the understanding and practice of artistic, insightful, inventive, and ethical leadership in educational settings and other human service organizations to contribute to and share the benefits of a just, caring, and democratic society. In keeping with this mission, the goal of the graduate programs is to develop effective leaders with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes for helping to build learning communities within a culturally diverse society. We are committed to enhancing students' knowledge, capability, skill, vision, and perspective of educational leadership as well as providing additional insight into each individual's role in transforming educational organizations and communities.
The design of the graduate programs is based upon the belief that individuals learn to become effective leaders through a developmental process which includes
inquiry, practice, and personal reflection. More than that, however, such leadership requires an integration of such knowledge into a multi-dimensional leadership perspective, which enables the exercise of a high level of personal artistry and integrity in dealing with the challenges, ambiguities, and paradoxes which characterize educational organizations. This process is one to which the Educational Administration & Leadership Studies programs contribute, but the process itself continues throughout the career of the individual as he or she constructs personal meaning from new learning.
The Educational Administration & Leadership Studies programs seek to:
- Offer a coherent preparation program for students who demonstrate the likelihood of being successful leaders in and educational or
other human service organizations
- Incorporate adult learning delivery strategies, such as problem-based learning, case study and reflective activities as an integral part of all course work
- Incorporate field experiences that culminate in a high quality internship experience; and
- Guide and promote doctoral, specialist, and master's students to engage in high-quality production and consumption of research and scholarship applicable to diverse settings.
Additionally as a Partner Member in the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA - www.ucea.org), we strive to uphold their mission of improving the preparation of educational leaders and promoting the development of
professional knowledge in school improvement and administration as well.
