Joan earned her Bachelor's of Arts in Music Education and a Master's in Music Education and Performance in Choral Conducting both from Bowling Green State University. Prior to entering the Doctoral Program in Leadership Studies, Joan taught Pre-K through 12 grade music classes in Defiance City Schools, Northeastern Local Schools, and Edgerton Local Schools, and she has also been an adjunct professor at Defiance College and University of Findlay where she taught choirs, methods courses and private voice instruction.

She has traveled with many of her music groups and she loves singing with her Sweet Adeline Chorus, The Pride of Toledo and her quartet, Mirage. As a graduate assistant, Joan teaches the Organizational and Administration of Education in American Society class (EDAS 409) to junior and senior education majors.

Joan hopes to pursue a career in either higher education or K-12 administration when she completes her degree. She resides in Defiance, Ohio with her husband, Mark.
