v    Leaning Community Governance

Faculty and staff of the PCC program welcome feedback and input from its students.

RLC Meetings

PCC students are welcome to attend some of the weekly RLC meetings at which many of the key governance aspects of the projects will be discussed and decided.  While the PCC faculty director has ultimate responsibility for the program, all decisions about the PCC program will be based on the advice and decisions of the RLC Group.  Students will be given major responsibility for designing many of the events, activities and field trips for the program, and their efforts in designing and implementing these will, in part, determine the quality of the program.

Committee on Judicial Affairs

This group works with the Hall Director and hall staff to monitor student conduct in the residence hall.  When it becomes necessary, this committee hears judicial cases and makes recommendations for sanctions to the Vice President for Student Affairs.

PCC – RLC Activities

Activities for the PCC program are developed and executed by the PCC instructor and the teacher in residence with guidance and approval from the PCC Residential Learning Community Committee.  This is an important aspect of the program as PCC stresses both curricular and co-curricular learning as well as developing and discovering self and collaborating with others.  Talk to the PCC instructor and the teacher in residence, or PCC project coordinator, about getting involved.

v    Frequently Asked Questions

How can I make a suggestion for a PCC event or become involved with planning events?

It’s easy.  Come and talk with the Project Coordinator, Connie Black-Postl, or speak with any PCC faculty member.  We encourage you to let us know what kinds of things you’d like to see going on in PCC, at any point during the year.

There are some things to consider, if you are thinking about proposing or planning an event . . . PCC-sanctioned activities require the participation of a faculty or staff member.  PCC is usually able to cover portions (if not all) of activity costs, such as transportation to events, supplies for book groups, or other event costs.  Some events, such as attending concerts or sporting events, may require students paying for their own tickets or covering miscellaneous costs.  The budgeting for many events is decided on a case-by-case basis.

How do I find out about community activities in PCC?

Activities in PCC will be posted, announced in classes, handed out on flyers, or sent over e-mail.  Keep your eyes open.  Or come and talk to the Project Coordinator, Connie Black-Postl, to find out what kinds of things are scheduled.

What if I want to start a group or club?

If you know of a few people who are interested in starting some sort of group, be it to watch and discuss movies, to get involved in community service, or to attend sports events and play intramurals, come talk to the Project Coordinator, Connie Black-Postl, or any faculty or staff member.  We can help you apply for any funding you’ll need and assist you with publicity and planning for your group.

I’m not a “joiner.”  Where does that leave me?

You can still be an integral part of the PCC Community.  PCC offers many choices when it comes to activities, and many are NOT required.  Try not to be put off by all the references to “community” and “groups” and “activities.”  What we consider communities can form in lots of different ways, and you may find yourself gravitating to certain groups because of common interests.  Do what you like to do.  Spend time with people you enjoy being with.  But remember to take a risk once in a while and try something new.  That’s what college is for.  Not interested in anything that’s going on in PCC?  Come talk to the Project Coordinator, Connie Black-Postl.  We are always willing to try out a new event, program, or activity.

Again, this is your community, and you make PCC what it is!  Be sure the kinds of things being planned are the things you want to see going on.  Come and talk with us.

A very important way of being involved: PCC Ambassadors

Another opportunity for involvement is available through the PCC Ambassadors.  The Ambassadors are a group of students who represent PCC to the university community and prospective students.  As an Ambassador, you may speak with prospective students and their families at Preview Days, talk with visiting high school students about the program, meet with interested BG community members, or help to plan our Family Weekend event.  The only qualification for being an Ambassador is that you are interested in speaking honestly and positively with others about the PCC Program!  If you would like to be involved in Ambassador activities, talk to the Project Coordinator, Connie Black-Postl.

Finally, the residence hall RA’s and PCC Project Coordinator always have information about activities on campus.
