Modern Political Philosophy:
Rawls, Nozick, and Raz
Professor, R. G. Frey
This course will explore the nature of political philosophy and some of the important questions that today comprise this subject. We will look in detail at three important works: Rawls’s THE THEORY OF JUSTICE, Nozick’s ANARCHY, STATE, AND UTOPIA, and Joseph Raz’s THE MORALITY OF FREEDOM. We will be concerned with exploring some of the central arguments of these three works, with highlighting some of their important differences, and with trying to assess some of the substantive and argumentative claims about justice, the state, and freedom that these works purvey.
