Hope Barbera , M.A.—Instructor of Math 115R/V: Introduction to Statistics.

Hope was raised in a small town in South Jersey and comes from a “large family.”  She spent much of her youth with her 5 brothers, 2 sisters, 4 step-sisters, half brother and half sister!  She left NJ to attend BGSU in the fall of 92.  After a 3-year stay (and a few changes in her major), she returned to NJ and earned a Bachelors of Arts, with honors, in Mathematics from Rutgers College in 1997.  She returned to BGSU and received a Masters of Arts degree in Mathematics from Bowling Green State University in 1999.

Over the past years, Hope has taught a wide variety of Math courses including Introduction to Statistics, Pre-calculusand Calculus. Though many of those classes have been taught using a lecture driven format, Hope has taught Introduction to Statistics (M115) in several formats.  As an instructor for Chapman, Hope will be teaching M115 using “collaborative learning.”  She is also the Co-coordinator of M115.

In Hope’s free time she enjoys reading (non-math related materials, too!), playing MMORPG’s, watching late night TV and being with friends and family.

Math 115R/V (3): Introduction to Statistics – Satisfies various mathematics requirements for a variety of majors. The main objective of Math 115 is to give the non-mathematical student an elementary introduction to the practice of statistics. This course will insight into how a statistician gathers, summarizes, and draws conclusions from data. We are surrounded everyday by numerical information and graphical material. At the end of the course, the student should be a critical consumer of this information.
