PRIVACY RIGHTS OF STUDENTS
At the start of each exam week, classroom instructors should be
reminded that grades may not be posted by student name, social
security number, or the PID in compliance with the Family Rights and
Privacy Act of 1974.
No directory information is to be made available for those
students who have officially requested non-release through the office
of the Vice President for Student Affairs, Office
of Student Life. Students who have officially requested
non-release will also individually provide written notification to
each of their instructors each semester. Lists of students requesting
non-release will continue to be sent to all appropriate offices as in
the past.
Questions about distribution of class lists and student privacy
issues should be directed to the Registrar.
Related to the "Buckley" Amendment is the matter of
parental/guardian access to a student's educational record. If the
parent or guardian attests (by filling out the "Parent's
Request for Information from the Student's Educational Record")
that the student is a dependent, access to the requested information
may not be denied. Requests may be referred to the Office of
Registration and Records which routinely handles such matters. Under
no circumstances should information be "released" to parents on the
basis of a phone call.

PROCEDURES FOR REPORTING TRIPS OFF
CAMPUS
Current University policy on attendance places sole responsibility
for establishing attendance policies with the individual faculty
member. The College office no longer files the names of students
participating in field trips nor provides any sanction or approval
for such activities. 'Excused absences' for any student who misses a
class due to participation in another faculty member's field trip is
a matter left to the affected course instructor.
It is, however, essential for University units who are sponsoring
off campus trips for students to report the names of participating
students to the Risk
Management Office and to purchase insurance for them at a nominal
cost. See Section 10 for detailed information on field trips.
