PRESENTATION OF NEW PROGRAMS TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The following procedures were established to regularize
presentations to the Board of Trustees for new programs.
New program or degree requests that require OBOR approval and
certain other new programs must first receive approval from the BGSU
Board
of Trustees.
To provide for timely review, the formal program request and
supportive material must be ready for mailing to the Trustees at
least two weeks before the meeting at which the Board's approval is
sought. This means that all internal approvals must be obtained and
the materials must be in final form prior to this time.
Proposals for new programs that are submitted to the Office
of the Provost for Board of Trustees approval should be
accompanied with a cover memo of one to two pages from the sponsoring
college. The cover memo should include an abstract of the proposal,
the rationale, resource implications, and the review/approval process
that has been followed.
At the meeting of the Board of Trustees, the collegiate dean
should be prepared to introduce the chair or faculty member who will
speak for the program and answer questions (if the dean does not do
this). The presentation should be brief--no more than 5 to 10
minutes total. The presentation should cover some of the same general
background as in the cover memo, emphasizing the substance of the
program and the rationale for it. The speaker should also be prepared
to respond to questions regarding resources needed for the program or
other questions raised by the Trustees. Handouts or charts that
assist in the explanation of the program should be available.
