FACULTY ASSIGNMENTS--GENERAL
STATEMENT
Full-time faculty are expected to fulfill a twelve-hour assignment
each semester, as reflected in the Faculty Service Report required by
the Ohio Board of
Regents. Consonant with the Policy Statement on Faculty
Assignments, this responsibility can be met by a twelve-hour teaching
load or an approved combination of teaching, specific
research/scholarship/creative activities, service and/or
administrative assignments. A minimum of 750 minutes of class contact
time is required for every credit hour per semester; 1500 minutes of
contact time is required for each credit hour of lab.
Faculty assignments will be made at the department/school level in
accordance with the unit's workload policy reflective of its mission.
Normally, a faculty member on a full-time teaching appointment with
scholarship and service expectations would teach an average of three
courses per semester. This, of course, depends upon the credit and
contact hours of the courses, in combination with other academic
responsibilities. However, even in Ph.D. programs, the teaching
assignment should be no less than two courses each semester.
Graduate assistants and others on fractional assignments are
expected to teach loads in proportion to their contract FTE.
Instructors, part-time staff or others without administrative or
other special duties should be assigned on the basis of the
twelve-hour standard load for full-time teaching.
Requests for overloads or for additional staff to meet exceptional
demands will be considered only if all regular staff have been
assigned in accordance with the above guidelines.
