Section 2.3
DIVISIONAL/SCHOOL/PROGRAM CURRICULAR COMMITTEES
Representatives to all divisional committees are, at the request
of the Arts and Sciences Council, elected through procedures
specified within the departments/schools and divisions to serve
three-year terms.
Function
- To review curriculum modifications and new course proposals
from department or program units within each division. If approval is recommended, the course modification
proposal forms are forwarded to the Dean; if the modifications are
not approved, the forms are returned to the department/program
unit for revision.
- To act on student appeals to waive or substitute courses
within that portion of the general requirements which might be
considered under the "jurisdiction" of each respective divisional
committee.
- To make appropriate recommendations to the Dean regarding
matters of concern to each respective division.
Membership
Committee for the Arts and Humanities
Voting members include one representative from each of the
following: the School of Art; Departments of English, German, Russian
and East Asian Languages, Philosophy, Popular Culture, Romance
Languages, Theatre; the College of Musical Arts.
An Assistant or Associate Dean who holds faculty rank serves as a
non-voting member.
A college advisor serves as a non-voting member.
The representative from the College of Musical Arts is not
eligible to chair the committee.
Committee for the Social Sciences
Voting members include one representative from each of the
following: the Departments of Economics, Ethnic Studies, Geography,
History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology and the School of
Communication Studies, and Telecommunications.
An Assistant or Associate Dean who holds faculty rank serves as a
non-voting member.
A college advisor serves as a non-voting member.
Representatives from the Department of Economics is not eligible
to chair the committee.
Committee for Mathematics and the Natural and Physical
Sciences
Voting members include one representative from each of the
following: the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry,
Computer Science, Geology, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics
and Astronomy.
An Assistant or Associate Dean who holds faculty rank serves as a
non-voting member.
A college advisor serves as a non-voting member.
Committee for the School of Communication Studies
Voting members include two representatives from the Departments of
Journalism and Interpersonal Communication; an additional
representative is appointed by the director.
An Assistant or Associate Dean serves as a non-voting member.
A college advisor serves as a non-voting member.
Committee for the School of Art
Voting members include one representative from each of the program
divisions within the School and one undergraduate student.
An Assistant or Associate Dean serves as a non-voting member.
A college advisor serves as a non-voting member.
Committee for Interdisciplinary Programs
The Council of Interdisciplinary Program Directors serves to
review course proposals and modifications which are not
departmentally based.
Voting members include one representative from each of the
following: African Studies, American Culture Studies, Asian Studies, Canadian Studies, Chapman at Kohl, Classical Studies, Environmental Studies, General Studies Writing, International
Studies and Women's Studies. Neuro-science is a non-voting member.
An Assistant or Associate Dean who holds faculty rank serves as a
non-voting member.
A college advisor serves as a non-voting member.
