About the Center
The Canadian Studies Center at Bowling Green State University was established in formal recognition of the important and multifaceted relationship between Canada and the United States, with an emphasis on Ohio. It is located just eighty miles south of Windsor, Ontario in northwest Ohio focuses on raising awareness of vital Canada-United States relationships including economic, political, and cultural affairs.
The Great Lakes region is the “economic hub” of North America. About 30 percent of GDP is generated by the Midwest states that border the Great Lakes and roughly 30 percent of the $1 billion-plus daily merchandise trade between Canada and the U.S. crosses the Detroit-Windsor Ambassador Bridge. The Center supports efforts by private business and local and state economic development agencies to strengthen Ohio business ties with Canada through monitoring cross-border economic issues. We are committed to four strategic program components.
