BGSU Canadian Studies Center
1991 - 2010

The Bowling Green State University Canadian Studies Center was the result of historical legacy and regional context.  Canadian content course offerings began in the 1970s and the curriculum evolved into a serious field of study that gives students a valuable international perspective and prepares them to work in today's global economy.  The Canadian Studies Center was created in 1991 and funded by the Ohio legislature.  During this time the Center provided generous support to faculty from a wide variety of disciplines to undertake research on Canada, hosted a range of cultural and intellectual opportunities, and developed strong external relationships with the business community.  These broad undertakings enabled the Center to become a recognized leader among national and international agencies focused on Canadian issues.

Current economic challenges have resulted in BGSU's reluctant decision to close the Center.  However, BGSU still remains home to a dynamic community of scholars with wide ranging Canadian Studies interests.
