Little Liberia: Life in a Refugee Camp
Client: College of A&S, Stuart Givens Memorial Fellowship
2 civil wars in Liberia, 500,000 Killed, 2 million refugees fleeing for their lives. Rebels and child soldiers murder, rape, orphan, separate families – the consequence of one of the world's worst episodes of ethnic cleansing. The conflict devastated Liberia’s economy, already one of the worlds poorest. 40,000 Liberians found refuge in Ghana. With limited rights and little opportunity for starting over they struggle to survive the terrible living conditions of the camp. After 18 years without land to call their own, and little prospect of returning home, they continue to have strong faith and a dream of a free and secure home, their Liberia.
