At the start of each two-to-three hour-long interview, students were provided with, and asked to sign, an informed consent form. At this point, participants were asked to indicate if they would
prefer to be referred to by their "real" names, or be given pseudonyms. (With written permission of the students featured in this text, I am using their real names.)
Once the forms had been signed, participants were asked to compose two visual representations of the composing processes they employed while working on a text for the course.
For the first of these visual depictions, students were asked to represent the overall
start-to-finish process they employed while working on
a text for the course. For the second, they were asked to represent the space(s) in which they worked on that text.
