One thing you can expect your first year out is constantly feeling like you have to prove yourself (or maybe I'm the only one!). You want your new department to be satisfied and glad that they made the decision to hire you. This feeling is a powerful motivator to be productive -- that and the usual "are other people getting more work done than I am" type of paranoia that most academics experience, both as graduate students and as faculty members.
I was so unsure about my performance that I made a short, one-page mock-up of my materials for my annual evaluation -- a list of bulleted points organized into the headings of Research, Teaching, and Service -- and I showed it to a few other faculty members in my department, including my chair, requesting feedback. I'd recommend that to anyone who isn't sure what their departments expect of them.
