Colleges
of veterinary medicine require four years of
pre-veterinary preparation for admission. The
pre-veterinary medical program which follows
meets the requirements of the College of Veterinary
Medicine at the Ohio State University. Students
should obtain information as early as possible
about the requirements of the school where they
plan to apply. A list of accredited colleges
of veterinary medicine in the United States
can be obtained from the American Veterinary
Medical Association, 1931 N. Meacham Rd., Schaumberg,
IL 60173 (http://www.avma.org/).
In
the first year at BGSU, students may enroll
as "pre-health professional." They
may be eligible to change to "pre-veterinary
medicine" when they have completed BIOL
2050 and CHEM 3410. These courses must be taken
for a letter grade. Students must have a B or
better in both courses. Upon meeting the above
criteria, students must consult a faculty advisor
to discuss the replacement of the "pre-health
professional" label with "pre-veterinary
medicine." The pre-veterinary medical student
is urged to confer frequently with an advisor,
particularly with respect to planning their
coursework for subsequent semesters and for
meeting the admission requirements of the preferred
veterinary school.
