Heat Plant and Plumbing Services

The Heating Plant uses approximately 400 million cubic feet of natural gas annually to provide steam across the BGSU campus.

The plant consists of three boilers that pass inspections annually per Ohio Department of Commerce. The Heat Plant in manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and typically a single boiler is sufficient for campus needs. Once the temperatures fall, the second boiler may be run as well. The third boiler remains on standby.
A new burner management system was recently implemented to increase the boilers efficiency.

The Heating Plant also houses three 150 gallon per minute (gpm) water softeners and two 50 gpm reverse osmosis systems to supply makeup water to the boilers. The R.O. system is used to purify water by removing all sediment and excess minerals.
