BGSU is one of the few universities in the country to have an undergraduate business program focusing specifically on services marketing and selling services. Next month we will be hosting the nation’s first National Service Marketing Competition. Seven teams, including a team from BGSU, will demonstrate their outstanding service marketing skills during three rounds of competition. A Message from the Dean
Welcome to 2014! A new year brings excitement for the many activities that will be happening this spring in the College of Business and the anticipation of continued success stories about our students, faculty, staff, alumni and programs. I am looking forward to seeing many of you at our events. You can keep up to date on what events are occurring by visiting the College of Business website.
By going to the College’s website, you’ll notice a major change in the University’s overall website design and easier navigation that is geared more toward mobile devices. We will continue to enhance the College’s website and online presence over the next few months.
We are excited to launch a new Peer Leader Program this semester to help freshmen transition to college life. Thirty sophomores will be selected and receive eight hours of leadership training. During the summer, these mentors will each be matched with approximately 15 incoming freshmen to help them transition to college life during their first year at BGSU. Our college holds business as well as accounting accreditation through AACSB, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Only 182 institutions in the world hold this distinction. As part of the accreditation process, we are going through our five-year maintenance of accreditation review. The AACSB accreditation team will be making a site visit on campus February 16-18 and meeting with faculty, staff, students, and administrators. We look forward to working with this team to become reaccredited.
I am pleased to announce new additions to the College of Business this spring. Ken McIntyre is director of development and the new College of Business liaison with BGSU’s Office of Development. He will be working with me as I visit alumni across the country to obtain support for the College’s programs, students, and faculty. Amy West has joined the College as the communications manager. Amy has been with the University for the past 12 years in the Office of Marketing and Communications. Also joining us is Marsha Bostleman who is the new administrative assistant for the Department of Marketing. We welcome these new additions.
Because of the overwhelming success of our CBA Rewards Point Program last fall, we expanded the program this spring and included even more participation opportunities. More than 83% of the students engaged with the College. In addition, we have added a competitive aspect to the program. Throughout the semester, we will be announcing a leaderboard … the top 10 students with the most accumulated points. At the end of spring semester, the top three students will be invited to my house for a gourmet dinner that I will prepare. (Read more…)
We hosted College of Business Day on January 17 which attracted approximately 100 prospective students and their families. They were given innovative, hands-on learning opportunities through such activities as a mock classroom lecture, an education abroad panel discussion, breakout sessions with a variety of national award-winning student organizations, an overview of the Business Career Accelerator, and a chance to talk to current students and me about launching their business education at BGSU.
