Business Seniors Hear Last Lecture; Outstanding Senior Announced

Graduating seniors gathered for their Time Capsule Ceremony and Graduation Luncheon with one last opportunity to enjoy conversations with their classmates.  The seniors heard their “Last Lecture” from the professor they selected, Kirk Kern, instructor in the marketing department and director of the Dallas-Hamilton Center for Entrepreneurship. Kern’s lecture was titled “Wisdom from a Wise Guy” and took the students through a brief history of his early days in the radio business and ended with his current role in the College of Business. He gave the graduating seniors his advice for success based on his experiences.

During the luncheon, Dean Ray Braun announced the three finalists for the College of Business’s Karl E. Vogt Outstanding Senior Award.  They are Trevor Bischoff, specializing in finance, accounting, applied economics and business analytics and intelligence; Treg Fortman, specializing in management information systems; and Shelbi Heydinger, specializing in accounting.

The Outstanding Senior Award was presented to Trevor Bischoff by Dean Ray Braun.  Trevor has been a leader not only in the College of Business but throughout the University. He has served as an orientation leader, a resident advisor, a College of Business Student Ambassador, President of Delta Sigma Pi, and President of Kappa Sigma. Trevor is the recipient of multiple scholarships including the Radison Arbogast Scholarship, the William & Muriel Fichthorn Scholarship, the Rhea Accounting Award, the Bart James Latessa Memorial Scholarship and the Avery Dennison Annual Scholarship. He was selected as a teaching assistant for a class of over 300 students and served as a tutor at the Learning Commons. Besides a statue, Trevor also received a $1,000 cash award. After graduation, he will be consulting for Deloitte.

Concluding the luncheon, seniors added memorabilia to the Class of 2014 Time Capsule which is being sealed for the next 30 years and reopened in 2044 during the Class Reunion. Also deposited into the Time Capsule was the Class of 2014 group photo taken when they arrived on campus.

We wish our graduating seniors the best as they launch their successful business careers!
