Dean’s Guide to Practical Business Workshop
The Dean’s Guide to Practical Business Workshop is designed to help prepare you for the working world. These six, two-hour workshops will cover what you need to know to prepare for your future business career. For the fall 2014, these workshops will be held on Mondays, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., begining September 8 through October 13.
Business Dining – September 8, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Bowen-Thompson Student Union, Room 207
Participants will attend a four course dinner, courtesy of the Dean, and will learn about business etiquette at receptions, banquets and business dinners.
Dressing for Success – September 15, 5:30-7:30 p.m., BA 111
Participants will learn about appropriate business formal, business casual, casual and formal attire.
Preparing to Interview – September 22, 5:30-7:30 p.m., BA 111
Participants will learn the appropriate steps to prepare for an interview including researching the company and interviewer and tailoring your qualifications and resume to the company.
Business Networking – September 29, 5:30-7:30 p.m., BA 111
Participants will learn the fundamentals of business networking including networking on social media and networking at company and conference events. Students will receive copies of "How to Work a Room" and "Never Eat Alone, Again," courtesy of the Dean.
Business Travel – October 6, 5:30-7:30 p.m., BA 111
Participants will learn how to plan business travel including airline reservations, ground transportation, hotels, and restaurants. Participants will learn about points programs and rewards leading to free travel and lodging.
Introduction to Wine – October 13, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Bowen-Thompson Student Union, Room 207
The selection and consumption of wine is often an intimidating experience at a business dinner. Participants will learn the basics regarding types of wine, wine tasting and matching food and wine.
