It has been a whirlwind the past few weeks in the College of Business! Homecoming was a little wet this year, but a great time was had by all. Board meetings were held throughout the college and we are looking forward to continue Going Beyond Business as Usual as our board members continue helping us take the College of Business to the next level.
Alumni events have been held throughout the state, and the annual Business Analytics Symposium was a success. We are gearing up for Women in Leadership and our Master of Organization Development program is celebrating 40 years with the MOD conference this month. Hatch applications are pouring in and we are going to have another great brood of Hatchlings!
It was wonderful seeing many of you at homecoming and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events. The College of Business is doing amazing things, and it is because of the collaboration between our students, faculty, alumni and friends of the College. Thank you for supporting the CBA!

Five Decades of Memories Unite MBA Class of 1966 to Celebrate at Class Reunion
Half a century sounds like a long time, but the continuing bond among the graduates of the MBA class of 1966 is as strong as ever. That bond was strong enough to bring them back to campus from all over the U.S. to celebrate their 50-Year Class Reunion. Since graduating, the cohort has kept in contact and met up at least every two years for a reunion.

Liabilities with Drones, Driverless Cars, and Cyber Attacks Discussed at Insurance Symposium
“Emerging Issues in Insurance and Risk Management” was the theme of this year’s Insurance Symposium, hosted by the Department of Finance and held in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. Discussion topics included cyber liability, insurance issues with drones as well as driverless cars, and the future of the Affordable Care Act.

Best Practices in Business Analytics Symposium
Customer Analytics was the theme of this year’s Best Practices in Business Analytics Symposium, hosted by the Center for Business Analytics, on October 7. It was the fourth annual symposium and Olscamp Hall was full of students, faculty and staff who learned how to use analytics to understand their customers, improve customer satisfaction and ultimately increase revenue.

Alumni Advisory Boards Meet to Offer Feedback to College Programs and receive Updates
During the week prior to the BGSU Homecoming, seven advisory boards met with either their department or their centers/institutes. Members of the Supply Chain Management Institute gathered for the annual Fall Dinner Meeting the night before the BGSU Job EXPO. They heard about relevant supply chain management topics and learned about the BGSU supply chain management program activities and success stories.

It’s a ‘Numbers Game’ which BGSU Economics Student Presented to Top Baseball Executives and Scouts
In sports, October belongs to Major League Baseball playoffs and the World Series and then MLB teams will be looking at their options for next year. Drafting strategies was the focus of an August seminar where a BGSU business senior presented his optimal drafting strategies project.

Falcon spirit was high as alumni from across the country returned to campus to celebrate BGSU’s Homecoming. Alumni, faculty, staff, and students enjoyed the College of Business tent as well as the Tailgate in the Sky.

BGSU’s Supply Chain Management Association earned its 6th consecutive platinum award. Out of 240 APICS student chapters worldwide, 12 obtained gold and only 8 of the 12 are platinum. Our student chapter continues to be among the top 10 chapters in the world.

Meet the Firms was a great event this fall for accounting and MIS students to get a chance to meet employers before the job fair. It was close to a 1 to 1 ratio of students to employers which allowed for direct interaction with many companies. |
Residents of the College’s Business District learned about operating a small business by visiting a downtown Bowling Green shop – The Cookie Jar. They received an up close perspective from its owner and also enjoyed sampling the products! |
The College celebrated two international festivals - the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, which honors family reunion and peace, and the Muslim Eid al-Adha, a “Sacrifice Feast.” The Chinese celebrate when the moon, a symbol of prosperity, happiness, and family reunion, is believed to be the biggest and fullest. Eid al-Adha honors the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his only son to God and falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah and lasts for four days. |
