Welcome to Academic Year 2016-2017!
Earlier this month, we graduated 62 undergraduate business students and 109 graduate students who are already Going Beyond Business As Usual. More than 86 percent of our graduates have jobs, pending interviews or are going on to graduate school. Eighty percent of those employed will earn between $45,000 and $75,000 annually.
We are also excited to report that our expected fall enrollment of 486 students is the highest in ten years and our expected retention rate of 82 percent is also the highest in ten years. Our incoming class is well prepared academically with an average ACT score near 24. The incoming freshmen are coming from 15 different states and six countries. Approximately 17 percent of our incoming students are coming from out of state which is higher than the overall University rate.

A Ph.D. is often considered the highest academic achievement a person can attain. However, Dr. Michael E. Zalar, a 2005 Bowling Green State University doctoral graduate, believes that learning is an ongoing process. The North Olmsted City Schools superintendent came back to BGSU in 2015 for the Executive Master of Organization Development (EMOD) program and graduated Aug. 6.

Open arms
As a Sunni Muslim from Iraq, Shahad Aldoori and her family experienced persecution and continuous violence while living in Baghdad. Aldoori still remembers the horrible moments her family endured when the war in Iraq broke out in 2003. She graduated from Bowling Green State University in May 2016 with a master’s degree in College Student Personnel.

Nicole Anguilm has always had a knack for organizational leadership, and now she has a master’s degree to back it up. Anguilm lives in Ann Arbor, Mich., and works for Google, where she is the product training manager and global solutions lead for the company’s AdWords division. She graduated on Aug. 6 with a Master of Organization Development degree.

BGSU’s College of Business has a unique and valuable partnership with Tianjin Polytechnic University (TPU) in China. Brian Bowerman and Connie Frey are BGSU alumni who are passionate about the insurance industry and advocate its job prospects. They reconnected with their alma mater as members of the Department of Finance’s Insurance Advisory Board to support the department’s re-establishment of an insurance and risk management program as well as the creation of the Insurance and Risk Management Institute (IRMI). Westfield Insurance is one of the eight Charter Members of IRMI.

BGSU’s successful lacrosse program was honored during a dedication of the new National Lacrosse Center in Maryland, home of US Lacrosse. Among the former BGSU players and coaches attending the ceremony were BGSU business alumnus and three-time All-American lacrosse player Mike Wilcox ’75 (right) and coaching legend Mickey Cochrane (left). A Falcon pillar was unveiled at the national center to commemorate the accomplishments of the University’s lacrosse program which started 50 years ago with teams competing until 1979.

The College of Business is saddened by the loss of retired legal studies professor Bartley Brennan. Dr. Brennan joined BGSU as an associate professor in 1974 and taught business law classes until his retirement in 1996. He published dozens of articles and numerous textbooks throughout his career.
