Awards Presented to Faculty and Staff During Opening Day; O-I Professor Named

The College is proud to have such outstanding faculty and staff who are dedicated to student learning, to the College of Business, and to their fields of study. Each year faculty and staff are nominated for awards and the winners are announced at the Opening Day Luncheon held prior to the start of fall semester classes.

Here are the faculty and staff members who were recognized for their accomplishments, along with the awards.

Marie Hodge Advising Award –  Julie Ash, Assistant Director, Office of Undergraduate Student Development, and Erik Chiarelott, Lecturer, Department of Marketing

This award honors a faculty or staff member who has demonstrated excellence in advising undergraduate students through their attitude, accessibility, knowledge of advising, and commitment to students and/or advising student organizations. Up to two people are selected for this award.

College of Business Administration Faculty Service Award - Dr. Arthur Yeh, Professor and Chair, Department of Applied Statistics and Operations Research

This award is given to a faculty member who has provided exceptional service primarily to the College, departments, or profession.

College of Business Administration Alumni Undergraduate Teaching Award – Dr. Chris Rump, Associate Professor, Department of Applied Statistics and Operations Research

A faculty member who has provided excellent undergraduate teaching in the College of Business Administration receives this honor.

The Robert A. Patton Scholarly Achievement Award Dr. Hokey Min, James R. Good Chair in Global Supply Chain Strategy, Department of Management

This recognizes outstanding research accomplishments that have impacted their disciplines.

James A. Sullivan College of Business Administration Staff Excellence Award – Tim Chambers, Director, Office of Undergraduate Student Development

A staff member is recognized for exceptional performance to the College of Business.

Also announced is the selection of Dr. Arthur Yeh, chair of the Department of Applied Statistics and Operations Research, as the new Owens-Illinois Professor.  Besides his department leadership, Dr. Yeh is also director of the College’s Center for Business Analytics and is responsible for planning the annual BGSU Business Analytics Symposium. Because of his expertise, he was asked to assist Tianjin Polytechnic University in China to host a business analytics symposium there and he served as a presenter at that event.

Dr. Yeh’s primary expertise lies in industrial statistics, particularly statistical quality control for manufacturing and non-manufacturing applications.  He says he became a professor because of his passion for statistics.
