Contemporary artists are increasingly transcending the traditional
boundaries of a single medium in the expression of their creative
ideas. In keeping with this contemporary trend, the degree in
Three-Dimensional Studies (3D Studies) allows students a flexible,
in-depth program that fosters the individual's originality and
creativity. The 3D Studies program provides a curriculum enabling the
student to master traditional and contemporary techniques in ceramics,
glass, jewelry/metals and sculpture, while providing the student
freedom to specialize or to diversify coursework, depending upon their
individual artistic interests.
Created to unify and strengthen the former areas of ceramics, glass, jewelry/metalsmithing and sculpture, the 3D Studies program combines them into a single academic structure. Flexibility exists within this new program for students to concentrate their research within a given area, for example, ceramics or jewelry, or to explore the creative potential in multiple concentrations.
