BFA Portfolio Review

Entrance into the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree is competitive. Students interested in pursuing a BFA degree in the School of Art must pass a Portfolio Review to become full BFA candidates (Note: Pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree does not require passing a Portfolio Review).

The School of Art offers BFA degrees in Digital Arts, Graphic Design, Two-Dimensional Studies, Three-Dimensional Studies and Art Education.

In order to take the BFA Portfolio Review, students must have completed, or be enrolled in, the three Art Foundations courses during their first year of study in the School of Art.

Every student has two chances to pass the portfolio review. If they are not successful in passing the Review their first year, they may attempt to pass the review the following year. If they do not pass at their second attempt, the student must opt to pursue a Bachelor of Arts within the School of Art.

Students sumbit 10-15 works digitally, primarily based on work made in their Foundations courses.

Students are also required to submit an application and a writing sample (writing prompt provided in the application).

The BFA Portfolio Review will take place in Spring 2015 (March), through digital submission.

The registration portal will open in February, 2015. At that time, students can begin uploading their portfolio digitally through SlideRoom.

Students wishing to receive unofficial feedback on their portfolio may contact the School of Art admissions office at artschool@bgsu.edu to set up an apointment.
