LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the baccalaureate degree, students in Spanish are expected to:

  • Write, listen and converse proficiently about Spanish and Latin-American literary works, movements, and genres regarding the civilizations of Spain, Latin-America, and the Spanish-speaking world;
  • Master reading comprehension, terminology, and basic research tools appropriate to literary and cultural analysis;
  • Demonstrate language proficiency through standardized examinations;
  • Engage in rational civil discourse in a manner respectful of others and the
    cultural diversity of the Spanish-speaking world.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS
(33 hrs. AT 3000/4000 level)

  • SPAN 3510 Spanish Comp. & Conv. I
  • SPAN 3520 Spanish Comp. & Conv. II
  • SPAN 3660 Foundations in Hispanic Literature
  • SPAN 3760 Foundations in Hispanic Civilization
    9 hours selected from the following topics courses:
  • SPAN 3820 Topics in Hispanic Literature and Culture
  • SPAN 3830 Topics in Hispanic Film and Culture
  • SPAN 3840 Topics in Hispanic Culture
  • SPAN 3850 Topics in Hispanic Language and Culture

    12 additional hours at the 4000 level

MINOR REQUIREMENTS
(21 hrs.)

  • SPAN 3510 Spanish Comp. & Conv. I
  • SPAN 3520 Spanish Comp. & Conv. II
  • SPAN 3660 Foundations in Hispanic Literature
  • SPAN 3760 Foundations in Hispanic Civilization
    Followed by 2 topics courses selected from the following:
  • SPAN 3820 Topics in Hispanic Literature and Culture
  • SPAN 3830 Topics in Hispanic Film and Culture
  • SPAN 3840 Topics in Hispanic Culture
  • SPAN 3850 Topics in Hispanic Language and Culture
    Minor is completed with 4000-level course.
    *Required minor courses may not be taken S/U.
