Personal Protective Equipment Program

Fact Sheet

  • BGSU is required by State law (Public Employee Risk Reduction Act) and subsequent rules to develop and implement safety protocols in the form of a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Program. (Examples of personal protective equipment are gloves, hard hats, goggles, steeltoe shoes, etc.)
  • To comply with state mandates, the BGSU Personal Protective Equipment Program was developed with university involvement. (Professors, supervisors, non administrative employees)
  • This program applies to:
    • Most academic and non-academic departments
  • The BGSU Personal Protective Equipment Program addresses the minimal requirements of the law, including:
    • Hazard assessment of departments
    • PPE used as last alternative
    • PPE selection guidelines
    • Providing PPE at no cost to the employee
    • Employee training
    • Supervisor and upper-management supervision and enforcement
  • Implementation Date: Fall Semester 1997
