Geology MS Admissions

The requirements for admission to our graduate program are stated in the Graduate Catalog and on the University’s Graduate Admissions website. In general, you must successfully complete an undergraduate degree in Geology or a related area.  Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA to be considered for Graduate Assistantships.  Before applying, prospective students are encouraged to contact the Graduate Coordinator, Sheila Roberts, to learn more about the program, and email potential faculty advisors to discuss graduate research options.

Applicants are required to request that these reference letters be sent.  BGSU does not automatically contact referees listed on the application form.

FOR LATER ADMISSION, letters will be collected through the Graduate Admissions system (referees will receive a system generated email).

FOR SPRING 2017 ADMISSION, you are also welcome to list additional information such as honors, awards, previous employment, etc., either in the same document or in a separate résumé.  Please send as an attachment (either Word or –PDF) to sjrober@bgsu.edu

International Students

Applicants from countries with primary languages of instruction other than English must take the TOEFL, MELAB, or IELTS exam in addition to the requirements listed above. The recommended minimum scores for graduate admission are: 80 for TOEFL (IBT), 77 for MELAB and 7.0 for IELTS. International students who meet all minimum standards are eligible for consideration for Graduate Assistantships.  International applicants are also required to submit additional documents.  Please visit the International Student Services website for more information.


All materials should be received by March 1 for full consideration for Assistantship awards for Fall or by October 1 for Spring.  Applications will be considered at other times, depending on the availability of space and/or funding.
