Service Learning

Service Learning is Community-Based Learning

Local civic leaders and non-profit agencies in Bowling Green, Toledo, and Perrysburg forge partnerships with Chapman @ Kohl. We have a special connection with The United Way and we travel to one work-site for an all-Chapman work party during the United Way Day of Caring. We also coordinate an outdoor United Way Fundraising Carnival on campus featuring raffles, games and sports. Future employers will value the community service experience you gain here in Chapman @ Kohl.

Each semester you will choose a one-credit community-based service learning class from a dozen different options, such as pet rescue and adoption, equestrian therapy, environmental reclamation, work with disabled children and adults, art therapy with teens at a Wood County detention center or children in a homeless shelter, disaster relief with the Red Cross, or assisting with meals on wheels or a community soup kitchen. You don’t need a car—you will be transported to all Chapman service events by van or bus. Each Chapman @ Kohl student gives about 15 hours each semester, but collectively as a community we contribute over 5,000 hours of service each year!
