Science & Math Education in ACTION
Freshman Year
Science or Mathematics Research Team Project
Freshman year, students work on a small group research project related to either science or mathematics. A faculty mentor provides guidance and instruction as participants learn the process of researching. Students meet approximately one hour per week throughout the academic year to discuss and research a chosen topic.
At the conclusion of the year, ACTION hosts a Research Symposium where students display posters and give short presentations describing their research to faculty, administrators, parents, and others in attendance from the community and the state. This project provides a unique opportunity for freshmen to be involved in research.
Some of the past research topics have included working with water quality analysis, green roofs, prime numbers, air pollution, the game of SET, geckos, and optical illusions.
