Academic Majors for ACTION
To be accepted into the ACTION Program, a student must declare one of the majors below.
Eligible Education Majors*:
Middle Childhood Education - must choose both science and mathematics concentrations
AYA Chemistry
AYA Earth Sciences
AYA Earth Sciences/Chemistry
AYA Earth Sciences/Physics
AYA Integrated Mathematics
AYA Integrated Science
AYA Life Sciences
AYA Life Sciences/Chemistry
AYA Life Sciences/Earth Sciences
AYA Life Sciences/Physics
AYA Physical Sciences/Physics
AYA Physical Sciences/Chemistry
AYA Physics
*A degree in Adolescent/Young Adult (AYA) leads to licensure to teach grades 7-12. A degree in Middle Childhood Education leads to licensure to teach grades 4-9. If you have specific questions, go to the BGSU College of Education and Human Development website for more information.
Other Eligible Majors**:
Biology (including the aquatic & marine biology and the ecology & conservation
biology specializations)
Chemistry (including the biochemistry specialization)
Environmental Science
Geology (including geochemistry, geophysics, and paleobiology)
Mathematics (including actuarial science, applied mathematics, and statistics)
Microbiology
Physics (including applied physics)
**By the end of the second year, all participants must have officially declared one of the education majors listed above to remain in the program.
