Major Mania will take place on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in 101 Olscamp Hall. Details to follow.

Electronic media such as television, radio, and the internet play in integral role in the ever changing technological society in which we live. News and information travel at higher speeds than ever before and effectively tie communities together on local, national, and international fronts. In fact, electronic media is rapidly becoming our primary source of information and entertainment in the present age.

CURRICULUM CHANGES: EFFECTIVE FALL 2006

  • TCOM 255 (International Telecommunications System) renamed TCOM 355 (Global Telecommunications System). Pre-requisite is TCOM 260.
  • TCOM 260 (Writing for Electronic Media) will eliminate TCOM 255 as a pre-requisite. Students should take TCOM 260 right after TCOM 103.
  • TCOM 451 (New Electronic Media) renamed TCOM 264 (Interactive Communication Technologies I).
  • TCOM 360 (Applied Research in Telecommunications) renamed TCOM 360 (Mass Media Research).

Mission

To prepare the future community and national leader in our industry via teaching, research, and service roles. Career opportunities are available in public and commercial radio and television, cable television, telephony, multimedia, web, advertising and education. Students excel in a features-oriented program of social science, liberal arts, and technical study.

Graduates obtain such positions as television producer, radio or television programmer, script writer, radio announcer, audio and video editor, web page designer, and media researcher.


Curriculum

The TCOM curriculum pays particular attention to:
* media production and representation practices
* new media technologies
* global media systems
* media theory research techniques
* media history
* the interaction of markets, policy and law in the telecommunications and associated sectors
* media management & business
